On 17 August,
the annual BSC staff sports day was held at Xinhua West Road Primary School.
On a sunny day and a green field, BSC staff raced, cooperated, cheered each other on,
and shared a day of effort and laughter.
Opening ceremony
The parade of teams is a highlight of every BSC sports day, and the moment the delegations entered the field the atmosphere lit up. Their energy and confidence showed the vigour and positive spirit of BSC's people.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. During the flag-raising ceremony everyone stood in silence and saluted the national flag as the anthem played.
Chairman Hu Jian gave the opening address. He urged all competitors to give their best in a spirit of full commitment, and encouraged staff to carry the sports day's spirit of teamwork and striving into their daily roles, seize opportunities and reach the company's new development goals. Duan Bin, chairman of the Lunan District
Federation of Industry and Commerce, and Zhang Zhiyuan, vice chairman of the Lunan District Federation of Trade Unions, attended the event and wished it every success in their remarks.
Representatives of the athletes and the referees took their oaths, pledging to compete hard with friendship first, and to judge with respect and fairness.
Competition
After a warm-up led by coach Qi Yingkai of Forfit Super Fitness Club, the competition began.
The programme combined traditional track events such as sprints and relays with team fun events such as tug-of-war and the giant tank-track race, testing individual ability while showing off team spirit and cohesion.
Youth on display
To a lively beat, the cheerleading squad took centre stage the moment they appeared. Drawn from departments across the company, they warmed up the crowd with bright smiles and energetic dance routines.
Track events
On the track, race after race of speed and passion showed the competitors' strength to the full.
Fun events
The giant tank-track race, the marble relay, the brick-crossing race, the hoop race and the traditional tug-of-war brought variety, excitement and plenty of happy faces in a relaxed atmosphere.
The referees
Alongside the athletes, the referees worked quietly to keep the day running smoothly, recording results fairly and tallying scores carefully under the sun.
Joy and honours
Good times pass quickly. With awards in 11 events handed out, the 2019 BSC staff
sports day came to a successful close. At the closing ceremony, trophies and medals were presented to the winners and everyone gathered for a group photo to mark the occasion.
The sports day is both a showcase of staff morale and an important part of BSC's corporate culture. This year's event demonstrated the determination, teamwork and competitive spirit of BSC's people. As market conditions grow tougher, that spirit from the field will be carried into everyday work.
