On 12 February 2025, the fifteenth day of the first lunar month in the Year of the Snake, BSC Group held its Lantern Festival celebration under the theme "Snake brings good fortune, a joyful Lantern Festival". It was both a celebration of a traditional holiday and a warm, festive gathering.
The Lantern Festival is one of China's oldest traditional holidays, rich in cultural meaning and emotional significance. The event was designed to enrich staff life outside work and let colleagues enjoy traditional culture together. The programme included painting traditional opera masks, making lanterns of all kinds, tasting yuanxiao (sweet glutinous rice balls) and solving lantern riddles. Along the way staff also experienced the company's core values: enjoy the work, embrace change, innovate boldly, keep improving, put customers first and win together.
Rolling in wealth: making yuanxiao
Shaking the bamboo tray in a steady rhythm, participants coated the fillings in layer after layer of glutinous rice flour until they became plump, round yuanxiao. Tasting and making yuanxiao together expressed everyone's hopes for the year ahead.
Fortune flows in: chuiwan
Chuiwan, an ancient Chinese ball-and-club game, dates back to the Tang dynasty and flourished in the Song, Yuan and Ming periods. Staff took up the club for this ancient form of golf and enjoyed its calm, focused elegance.
Lucky stars shine: making lanterns
Staff made lanterns to welcome the new year and admired the colourful display, wishing each other joy and lasting peace.
Laughter all round: painting opera masks
With brush and paint, staff created opera masks of the red-faced Guan Gong, the incorruptible Bao Zheng and the defiant Dou Erdun, and took part in a small piece of China's operatic heritage.
A full house: lantern riddles
No Lantern Festival is complete without riddles. Wisdom hides in the riddles and warmth in the laughter, and staff enjoyed the fun of guessing together.
Blessings for the year: ping-pong games
In a series of ping-pong games staff laughed together and wished each other a prosperous year ahead.
As the event drew to a close, staff redeemed the vouchers they had earned for prizes. The display featured electric steamers, eye-protection lamps, aromatherapy diffusers and more, and everyone went home well rewarded.
The celebration showed the strength of BSC's corporate culture, kept a traditional holiday alive and gave staff fresh enthusiasm for the year's work.
