As the Dragon Boat Festival approached, the BSC Global Maker Incubator organised a zongzi-making event to carry on traditional customs and enrich the cultural life of maker teams and company staff. Maker teams and all company employees gathered after work to enjoy the festival together.
The event was well prepared and the atmosphere was lively. The organisers laid in glutinous rice, fresh bamboo leaves, candied dates, string and other materials in advance and arranged the venue beforehand. On the day, makers and staff sat together to wrap zongzi, dividing up the tasks and enjoying the traditional craft in a relaxed and warm atmosphere.
Participants got hands-on and learned from one another. Many makers and employees were wrapping zongzi for the first time, and progressed from fumbling with folding the leaves and filling the rice to gradually mastering the technique. Folding, filling, shaping and tying followed in order, and zongzi of every shape took form. Each one was different, but every one carried the sincerity of its maker and the shared memories of the team.
Once all the zongzi were wrapped, they were taken to the kitchen to steam. As the steam rose, the fresh scent of bamboo leaves and the sweet aroma of the zongzi spread through the venue, and everyone present felt the festive spirit.
The incubator is home to the ambitions of many makers, and many tenant teams are so absorbed in their projects that they cannot return home for the festival. This event is a practical part of the incubator's people-focused services.
