In recent years the state has steadily increased its support for corporate innovation, raising the super-deduction rate for enterprise research and development expenses, widening its scope and allowing companies to claim it early under inclusive tax policies. This year the super-deduction rate for R&D expenses at technology-based small and medium enterprises was raised from
75% to 100%. To carry out the central government's policy of supporting business development, the Hebei provincial tax authorities set up a dedicated service team, and the Tangshan
local tax office visited the BSC Global Maker Incubator to explain the R&D super-deduction policy, joining efforts to help young makers grow and to strengthen the technological innovation capacity of local companies.
The BSC Global Maker Incubator is one of the few national-level maker spaces and national-level technology business incubators in China, and is also a provincial-level innovation and entrepreneurship base. For one person to reach a goal is unremarkable; to lead a group of people to it is something else. These raise the quality of company management, create a strong entrepreneurial atmosphere and put tenant companies on a modern footing in which profit comes from advanced market thinking plus professional operations. "Scientists are the lighthouse that illuminates industrial development; entrepreneurs are the engine that drives it." Hu Jian made this point at the 26th Annual Meeting and Global Innovation Summit of the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, USA, held at Yale University in Connecticut, and he has worked toward it consistently. The event was title-sponsored by BSC, led by Hu Jian, together with Thompson, and brought together a large number of distinguished participants, including Nobel laureates, professors from leading universities and well-known entrepreneurs. Speaking as chairman of BSC Holding, Hu Jian gave a keynote on linking science and technology with global markets, drawing on the company's own experience. He reviewed how Tangshan BSC Global Maker Incubator Co., Ltd. has followed the principle of sharing global wisdom to drive regional growth, explained that building a technology ecosystem is how BSC connects science and technology with global markets, and looked ahead to BSC establishing dedicated technology incubators for the association in both the United States and China, giving priority to investing in and incubating high-tech projects recommended by the association and connecting them with global markets and capital.
Immersed in a great deal of cutting-edge knowledge, Hu Jian is convinced that technology is the key link to global markets. He has focused the base's incubation efforts on high-tech fields such as artificial intelligence, biomedicine, intelligent manufacturing and the internet of things, aiming to build a complete technology ecosystem that measures up to world standards and drives the growth of China's new research and development capacity.
Daring to try, daring to fail
Success never comes all at once, and in entrepreneurship Hu Jian is a true pioneer. His path shows how hard it has been. At 19, drawing on a sharp business mind and design talent, he co-founded an advertising and interior decoration company, and then went on to set up small businesses in trading, clothing and travel. Through repeated trial and error he accumulated a wealth of entrepreneurial experience. As he has put it, the present is already becoming the past, time moves forward without obstruction, and we must stay alert and keep running forward without hesitation. That refusal to accept defeat gave him a keen eye for where the market was heading. In his prime he entered real estate and step by step built BSC, rooted in Tangshan, deeply engaged in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and reaching across the country. The business grew from real estate sales agency to independent development, driving urbanisation in the area and greatly improving the quality of local housing.
Before China's real estate industry showed any sign of slowing, Hu Jian pointed out that as a capital-intensive industry, real estate could hardly withstand market cycles with a single product line. He therefore mapped out a clear strategic path and, with an open and inclusive approach, steered the company toward becoming a diversified, cross-sector, international modern group. With real estate as the foundation, BSC expanded into related fields such as investment and financial services, retail, cross-border e-commerce and incubation, establishing a national-level maker space, a national-level technology business incubator, Wholefield Cross-Border E-Commerce Co., Ltd. and BSC Financial Services, among other key projects. This took the group into wider circles and made a substantial contribution to the region's economic growth and investment climate.
Giving back with generosity
Whether as the leader of BSC or as president of the Tangshan Young Entrepreneurs Association, Hu Jian leads by example, passing on a belief in giving to employees and fellow entrepreneurs. He is active in public welfare and charity, leading others to the front line to bring care and relief to those in need. Through decades in business he has kept a sincere commitment to giving back to society.
From donations of money and goods to the earthquake zones of Wenchuan in Sichuan and Yushu in Qinghai, to organising the association's targeted poverty relief in Qiemo County, Xinjiang, to establishing the BSC Chunlei Fund to support children with disabilities, to funding university students from poor families and helping elderly people living alone, Hu Jian has consistently stepped forward. He has set an example of the philanthropic entrepreneur and contributed real strength to a more harmonious society.
It is Hu Jian's international outlook, his accurate reading of circumstances, his continual optimisation of the business and his strategic adjustments to local conditions that have kept BSC steady through changing times, placed it among the leaders of the real estate industry and kept it contributing to market growth.
