Every July, BSC runs the Future Leaders summer camp for the primary-school-age children of group employees, with all costs covered by the group. The programme aims to broaden young people's horizons and encourage a love of learning while easing childcare pressure on staff during the holidays. In its third year the camp left Hebei for the first time with a study trip to Beijing and Qinhuangdao.
On the first day the campers went sailing at the Qinhuangdao West Port sailing centre. After a briefing from professional coaches they boarded boats in small groups, rigged the sails and took the helm, learning teamwork on the water. In the afternoon they visited Aranya, taking in its seaside setting and art spaces.
The second day combined practical skills with horse riding. In the morning the campers made desserts and pizza under the guidance of a pastry chef. In the afternoon they visited the Wanjun equestrian club to learn about horses and how to handle animals, and each took a turn in the saddle, building confidence and respect for living things.
On the third day the group visited the Forbidden City. Guided by study tutors, they learned about the functions of the imperial palace, traditional building techniques and court ritual, and tried seal making and the pitch-pot game, bringing Chinese heritage within reach.
On the closing day, industry professionals shared stories of craftsmanship and perseverance, and the campers practised interviewing them. At the closing ceremony the children painted their impressions of the trip on a ten-metre scroll. Hu Jian, chairman of BSC Holding, presented completion certificates and said that the growth of young people is the hope of the future.
The camp combined outdoor challenges, hands-on activities, cultural study and learning from role models to help the children widen their horizons and test themselves. Over the years the Future Leaders camp has become a valued part of the group's employee care programme, and BSC will continue to build opportunities for employees' families.
