On 17 January 2018, the "Design Changes the Future" seminar was held at Seed Cafe on the 23rd floor of the BSC innovation and entrepreneurship base. It was hosted by the Yahongqiao Town Government of Yutian County and co-organised by BSC Global Maker Incubator Co., Ltd. and LKK Technology Co., Ltd. The seminar explored how manufacturing and trading companies in Yahongqiao can use design to lead their development, broaden their horizons and take on the opportunities and challenges of the global and Chinese markets in 2018. Participants included Wang Shusheng, Mayor of Yahongqiao Town, Yutian County; Hu Jian, chairman of BSC Holding; Xu Wei, vice president of LKK Innovation Design Group and co-founder of LKK Technology; and young entrepreneurs from Yahongqiao.

Xu Wei, vice president of LKK Innovation Design Group and co-founder of LKK Technology, opened the seminar with a presentation on its theme. She argued that this is an era in which many advanced technologies lack the means to be commercialised and many internet applications compete on the same ground; that product innovation is driven by two things, technological progress and design; and that in today's internet economy supply exceeds demand, so the user sits at the centre of demand. She closed by encouraging everyone to share and create boldly in a fast-changing, intelligent age, and to learn to cross boundaries and connect. Her remarks were warmly received.

After the presentation, Hu Jian chaired a face-to-face discussion. Mayor Wang Shusheng began with an overview of Yahongqiao Town, including its transport links and location advantages, and offered his views on how to make better use of the town's existing resources and improve its infrastructure. He invited the entrepreneurs to get to know Yahongqiao and to contribute ideas for its future development.

The young entrepreneurs from Yahongqiao then took turns to introduce their companies and offer suggestions on future development. The discussion was open and the atmosphere relaxed and lively.
An open exchange of views
The seminar supports the transformation and upgrading of Yahongqiao's traditional markets and supply chains. It also brought local young entrepreneurs into contact with advanced design thinking and leading designers, broadening their outlook, sparking innovation, guiding improvements to the town's infrastructure and offering new ideas and models for the transformation of local industry.
