Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture lies where the western edge of the Sichuan Basin meets the southeastern rim of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Its terrain is distinctive, crossed by deep gorges, and it is known as the heart of the Hengduan Mountains. The prefecture is rich in natural scenery and a meeting place of cultures, where Tibetan, Han, Yi and other peoples live together, and its 1.1 million residents, with their own customs and way of life, define the character of the land.
By chance, Guo Lu, general manager of BSC Holding, learned from Chiba Tubten Chokyi Gyaltsen, the living Buddha of Sershul Monastery in Garze, that the area's geography combines high plateau pastureland with valley farming. Because of these conditions, many elderly people and children there urgently need warm clothing in the cold season, and students need books, stationery and other school supplies. The company took this seriously and decided to act, with Master Qudi of Sershul Monastery providing the necessary support and assistance locally to those most in need.
Taking action
On April 22, 2025 the company launched the sixth season of its "Love for Qinghai, Love for All" clothing donation drive. The appeal drew an active response and strong support from community organisations, businesses, public institutions, government bodies and caring individuals across the country. In just one month it collected 15,548 items of second-hand clothing, used teaching equipment, books and stationery.
After careful preparation, the collected goods were shipped in batches to the areas that needed them.
On May 13 and May 27, 46 parcels containing 2,028 items were sent to Zhangmu Port in Nyalam County, Shigatse, Tibet. There the volunteer Ngawang Tsering carried the goods on to the mountains and riverbanks of China's border region, so that the goodwill could take root in these remote places.
On May 13, May 27 and June 13, 128 parcels containing 5,488 items were sent respectively to Heyin Town in Guide County, Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture; Dawu Town in Maqin County, Golog; Shidacang Township in Hualong County, Haidong; Gangcha Township in Xunhua County; Qiakeri Township in Zeku County, Huangnan; Darlag County in Golog Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture; and Zhaba Town in Hualong Hui Autonomous County, Haidong. Volunteer teams led by Sister Xuelianhua, Banma, Cairenji, Shangmao, Lasongjiebu, Qiangqiang, Hengmao, Duojiecairang, Gesang and Lijiadangzhi carried the effort forward across Qinghai, its wide grasslands and quiet lakes bearing witness to this friendship.
On May 24, May 27 and May 30, 160 parcels containing 8,032 items were sent to Shiqu County in Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan. There Master Qudi of Sershul Monastery led a team that continued the cycle of giving, bringing warmth to more corners of Garze.
Reaching the destination
To see this commitment through, and after thorough preparation, on June 29 general manager Guo Lu and a team of volunteers made the long and demanding journey to Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in western Sichuan. There the volunteers personally handed the clothing, school supplies and other goods to elderly people living alone and to children from poor families. Every warm handshake and sincere smile passed on care and concern, letting people in difficult circumstances feel the support of the wider community.
During their days of volunteer work around Sershul Monastery, the volunteers were deeply moved by what they experienced. They were especially grateful to the living Buddha Chiba, having seen for themselves in the Tibetan region how his compassion serves as a beacon that gives hope to countless people. His generosity and dedication earned their deep respect.
The volunteers also thanked Master Qudi and all the monks of the monastery, who treated the visiting volunteers like family and cared for them in every way. On first arriving on the plateau, everyone suffered badly from altitude sickness, and it was the monks at their side who calmed their anxieties. They even prepared food from the Han regions for the visitors, a thoughtful gesture that touched everyone.
The volunteers also remember Mr. Huang and Mr. Feng, who travelled with them. When the altitude sickness became severe, the two men promptly brought medicine and food, a kindness that meant a great deal.
In Garze the volunteers felt no sense of being strangers, only the warmth of old friends reunited. They are grateful for this meeting, which let them encounter light, follow it and hope to become light themselves, passing on love and warmth so that this unending cycle of giving can reach more people.
The "Love for Qinghai, Love for All" clothing donation drive
BSC Holding launched the "Love for Qinghai, Love for All" clothing donation drive in 2019. This year marks its sixth season. Its original purpose is to handle used goods in a more environmentally friendly way, supporting a circular economy and the reuse of resources.
Season one sent 1,106 items of second-hand clothing to the villages of Qianiu, Adai and Rimaxiang in Wendu Township and Geda, Dawu, Wuke and Mari in Baizhuang Township, all in Xunhua County, Qinghai.
Season two sent 2,200 items of second-hand clothing to Jianzha County in Huangnan, Qinghai.
Season three sent 5,900 items of second-hand clothing to Haidong, Banma County in Golog, Yushu and other parts of Qinghai, and 27,000 yuan in donations bought more than 200 sets of school bags and stationery for Hainan Prefecture, Xining, Huangnan and other areas of the province.
Season four sent 10,500 items of second-hand clothing, 50,200 yuan in donations, 2,641 books, 135 toys, 83 school bags and more than 100 boxes of Lianhua Qingwen medicine to several prefectures and counties including Yushu, Huangnan and Haidong in Qinghai, as well as Shigatse in Tibet and an orphanage in Xinzhou, Shanxi.
Season five sent 9,358 items of second-hand clothing, used teaching equipment and used musical instruments, and 33,019 yuan in donations bought 460 sets of books and stationery, three bookcases, a water heater, two sound systems, two height and weight scales, 36 sets of teaching equipment and 40 braille boards. These went to the school for the blind in Tongren, Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture; Gudi Kindergarten in Wendu Tibetan Township, Xunhua County; Maqin County in Golog; Xinghai and Guinan Counties in Hainan Prefecture; Zeku County in Huangnan; Hualong, Minhe and Guide Counties; Shiqu County in Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan; and Xiahe County in Gannan, Gansu.
Season six sent 15,548 items of second-hand clothing, used teaching equipment and other goods to Guide County in Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture; Maqin County and Darlag County in Golog Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture; Hualong Hui Autonomous County in Haidong; Zeku County and Tongren in Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture; Nyalam County in Shigatse, Tibet; and Shiqu County in Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan.
The drive is recognised and supported by the Tangshan Municipal Youth League Committee. Every participant receives a donation certificate and can check in on the Zhiyuanhui volunteer app to accumulate volunteer service hours.
The purpose of "Love for Qinghai, Love for All" is to handle used goods in a more environmentally friendly way, supporting a circular economy and the reuse of resources. More than 80 community organisations, businesses and public institutions and more than 600 people have taken part, and its growing influence has made it a signature public welfare activity of Lunan District.
