This year marked the fifth season of the BSC clothing donation drive "Warmth for Qinghai, Love for All", and second-hand clothing has now reached many pastoral communities in Qinghai, Sichuan and Gansu.
Thanks to everyone who came along
On 12 and 13 August, Guo Lu, general manager of BSC Holding, travelled with members of the Love Cycle organisation and Qinghai volunteer representative Sister Xuelianhua to deliver donations to the school for the blind in Huangnan Prefecture and to the primary school and kindergartens in Keba Village, Hualong County. The consignment included more than 11,000 items of second-hand clothing, 415 children's books, a new bookcase for the reading room, new teaching equipment, stationery, sports equipment, second-hand musical instruments and second-hand electronics donated by companies, public institutions, government bodies and student families in Beijing and Tangshan, together with supplies donated by BSC.
Summers on the Qinghai plateau are cool and short, winters long and severe. BSC gathered the warmth of many donors and carried it to the source of China's great rivers.
On the 12th the volunteer team arrived at the Huangnan Prefecture vocational school for the blind, where the students welcomed the visitors with music and sang their good wishes.
On the 13th the team visited the Maoyu and Gudi kindergartens in Wendu Township, Xunhua County, bringing carefully prepared stories to plant a love of reading and keep both stories and kindness in circulation.
That afternoon the team reached the Keba Village school, where a reading session and the opening of a community library brought knowledge and warmth to the children.
In her message to the children, Guo Lu thanked Sister Xuelianhua for matching the donations precisely to where they were needed, thanked the more than 50 companies and 500 families for their continued support, and paid tribute to the local volunteers and to the teachers of the school for the blind, the primary school and the kindergartens. She said she believed the circle of donors would keep growing and that the children would carry the kindness forward.
About the Warmth for Qinghai, Love for All clothing drive
BSC Holding launched the "Warmth for Qinghai, Love for All" clothing donation drive in 2019, and this year is its fifth season. Its founding aim is to give used clothing a more environmentally sound second life and to support a circular economy through reuse.
Season one sent 1,106 items of clothing on 26 November 2019 to seven villages in Xunhua County, Qinghai: Qianiu, Adai and Rimaxiang in Wendu Township, and Geda, Dawu, Wuke and Mari in Baizhuang Township.
Season two sent 2,200 items on 3 November 2020 to Jianzha County in Huangnan Prefecture.
Season three sent 5,900 items on 14 June 2022 to Banma County in Golog Prefecture, Yushu Prefecture and other parts of Qinghai, while 27,000 yuan in donations bought more than 200 sets of school bags and stationery for Hainan Prefecture, Xining and Huangnan Prefecture.
Season four delivered 10,500 items of clothing, 50,200 yuan in donations, 2,641 books, 135 toys, 83 school bags and more than 100 boxes of Lianhua Qingwen medicine. Shipments left on 20 July, 25 July and 3 August 2023 for Yushu, Huangnan and Haidong in Qinghai, as well as Shigatse in Tibet and an orphanage in Xinzhou. Guo Lu and the volunteer team travelled with Sister Xuelianhua to Xunhua County, where they gave school bags, stationery and gifts to 580 children and 60 elderly people living alone, and delivered clothing to 272 households in 20 villages.

The drive is recognised and supported by the Tangshan Municipal Youth League Committee. Every participant receives a donation certificate and can log volunteer hours in the Zhiyuanhui app.
The aim of "Warmth for Qinghai, Love for All" remains to handle used clothing in a greener way and keep resources in circulation. More than 50 organisations, companies and public institutions and over 500 people have taken part, and the drive has become a signature community programme in Lunan District.
